DMARC Mobile Food Pantry Launches Four New Sites

Next week, the DMARC Mobile Food Pantry will visit four new mobile pantry partner locations throughout Greater Des Moines. Times and locations for the new DMARC Mobile Food Pantry sites are as follows:

  • Beginning Monday, January 21, the DMARC Mobile Food Pantry will visit Park View Village, 1900 SE 28th Street, Grimes, IA 50111, every first and third Monday of the month from 4-6pm.
  • Beginning Tuesday, January 22, the DMARC Mobile Food Pantry will visit Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Parish, 1271 E 9th Street, Des Moines, IA 50316, every second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 4-6pm.
  • Beginning Wednesday, January 23, the DMARC Mobile Food Pantry will visit Johnston Public Library, 6700 Merle Hay Road, Johnston, IA 50131, every second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 4-6pm.
  • Beginning Thursday, January 24, the DMARC Mobile Food Pantry will visit River Woods Elementary, 2929 SE 22nd Street, Des Moines, IA 50320, every first and third Thursday of the month from 1:30-3:30pm.

“We’re very excited to expand the reach of the DMARC Mobile Food Pantry with these four new locations,” said DMARC Mobile Food Pantry Program Manager Joe Dolack. “We continue to identify pockets of food insecurity in our community and develop partnerships to bring the DMARC Mobile Food Pantry directly to the people who need it most.”

“The Mobile Food Pantry will make food more accessible to those who, because of lack of transportation, busy work schedules, and other barriers, have trouble taking advantage of traditional food services,” said Johnston Public Library Director Eric Melton. “We think these new stops will make a big difference in the lives of Johnston’s food-insecure residents.”

Like other pantries in the DMARC Food Pantry Network, the DMARC Mobile Food Pantry provides a nutritionally balanced three-day supply of healthy food once per calendar month, as well as additional AnyTime Items that are available any day the food pantry is open.

The DMARC Mobile Food Pantries have been made possible by the Polk County Board of Supervisors and the Partnership for a Hunger-Free Polk County, Gregory and Suzie Glazer Burt, Charlotte and Fred Hubbell, and Variety-the Children’s Charity. Special thanks to Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa, Stivers Ford Lincoln, Schneider Graphics, Snappy’s Trailer Store, H&H Trailers, and two individual bequests.
