The Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) Food Pantry Network will be receiving a shipment of $5,500 worth of cereal from the Hy-Vee Stores on Tuesday, December 17 at 10:00 a.m., at 1435 Mulberry Street, Des Moines.

“This is the first shipment of food to DMARC’s newly renovated building on the southwest side of downtown Des Moines,” shared Food Pantry Network Director Rebecca Whitlow. “Because Hy-Vee is such a wonderful partner, we wanted to celebrate the Colossal Cookie Sale by receiving their donation as the first to our new site,” continued Whitlow.

For two weeks in September, Hy-Vee Food Stores from across the greater Des Moines area sold 552,617 cookies as part of the Colossal Cookie Sale benefiting the DMARC’s Food Pantry Network. Since the Cookie Sale began in 2003, Hy-Vee stores have sold over 8.5 million cookies and have donated more than $85,000 in food products to DMARC’s network of neighborhood pantries in greater Des Moines.

Every month, through the MovetheFood initiative, DMARC transports almost 118,000 canned food items and nearly 82,000 pounds of fresh produce from the main warehouse to the food pantries. The new warehouse site will officially begin receiving donations on January 20th, 2014.
